Dzidzantun
Located twelve kilometres south of Santa Clara is the lovely town of Dzidzantun (population 11 000) whose recorded history begins in the year 1549. This lively, traditional Mexican town offers, among other things, grocery shopping, numerous stores and markets, a gas station, auto mechanics and several internet sites, a medical clinic and first rate dental facilities. There is a bus depot in Dzidzantun which lists frequent departures to Merida and many of the nearby towns. There is a busy market adjacent to the beautiful main square which is located across from the city hall and the magnificent church of Santa Clara. There are several Protestant (Baptist, Evangelical, Presbyterian) churches in Dzidzantun, but all services are in Spanish. As it is not a tourist town, very few (but some) people speak English. We always look forward to frequent visits to our friendly and safe neighbour to the south and enjoy the true Mexican culture and warm, welcoming people we meet there.
